Every year, 14 million people will begin their cancer journey. 14 MILLION people.
And millions more will be by their side to care for them and all of us touched by cancer will need the support and inspiration to find our way on the cancer journey. Every one has a story, millions that we never hear about that are truly heart wrenching. From the moment of the diagnosis, we enter into a new world, nothing will ever be the same. Each cancer experience is as individual as a fingerprint. I feel really sad for the ones that you don’t hear about that are just as special as my mom and Joey. I don’t know why God choose us to be apart of the CTCA family and experiencing the wonderful people we encountered along with way but how do you ever thank him for the blessings he has given us. What makes us so special than anyone else? I have witness I beautiful women walk into my moms room and encourage her as she was battling the same illness. I have witness their friendship, loyalty and courage and seen their hearts an souls speak unconditionally to each other. Because of cancer it brought my mom and Joey together, I think God brought them together not cancer. Joey gave us something special, and I am blessed to be a part of the loveliness of a time of their sorrow.

When my mom found out the news about her CTCA friend, I remember her breaking down and saying: she is such a better person than I am. She doesn’t deserve this. What makes her less special than me.
I didn’t have the answers but all I could say was: you’re here in this moment, today. My mom has always said she wants this song at her funeral but hopefully that will be much later on in life. My personal favorite from Joey is her song she sings: “That’s Important To Me” but “In The Garden is one of the most beautiful songs ever”.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16
